Help Us Sustain Our Shelter.
The only Muslim Transitional Refugee Center & Mosque in Mexico
Founded in 2015, the Latina Muslim Foundation has transformed the lives of 100’s of refugees from across the world. As we continued to grow, we ran out of space and we ran out of resources. By the grace of Allah we were able to purchase land & construct an 8,000+sqft facility. We can now house over 150 refugees.
The Latina Muslim foundation is now under construction and is planning to launch early 2022. Help us with our monthly overhead expenses so we can get the center up and running. Although our center is under construction we are still taking refugees in satellite locations.
Help us with our monthly overhead expenses for our Mosque & Refugee Empowerment Center which will be used as a transitional shelter for refugee Muslims that come from across the world to the Mexican border to gain asylum into the United States!
Our Journey:
About our center & WHY Mexico:
Due to an agreement between the United States and Mexico, migrants who seek United States asylum can remain safely in Mexico until the immigration process is complete. This is one of the main reasons why many Muslims refugees from Syria, Yemen, Ethiopia and other countries risk their lives by making the arduous journey to Mexico.
These Muslim Refugees are victims of persecution who flee their homelands in search of hope, justice, and a safe place to raise their families and practice their faith. Most refugees suffer unthinkable tragedies and arrive here with next to nothing. Our center will offer them healing and hope. Not only will the refugees be provided basic needs like food & shelter, but they will also have access to medical health checkups, dental care, and mental health and counseling services. We will also be providing free legal aid in order to assist asylum seekers hoping to get legal status in the United States.
The Latina Muslim Foundation makes headlines
Mexico has been one of the countries that decided to open its doors to receive the thousands of refugees coming from Afghanistan.
Being the only muslim shelter in Mexico, the Mexican government has came to an agreement with the Latina Muslim Foundation to bring us over 100 refugees.
Monthly Overhead Expenses include:
Security
Food
Education in Spanish, English and Islamic Studies
Medical, Dental, Mental Health Care & Counseling
Legal Assistance Assisting with Immigration Documents

The UN refugees agency reports:
Afghans make up one of the largest refugee populations worldwide. There are 2.6 million registered Afghan refugees in the world, of whom 2.2 million are registered in Iran and Pakistan alone. Another 3.5 million people are internally displaced, having fled their homes searching for refuge within the country. In light of the rapidly deteriorating security situation in 2021, the number of people fleeing will likely continue to rise.

"Refugees are coming to this shelter and are interested in Islam. They see Muslim's serving and providing care for other Muslims, in an area where there are no services for Muslims." - Imam Zaid Shakir

“It’s good to help and to give to people, but it’s better to prepare people to have some kind of future. There are Muslims who do not feel safe in the shelters they are staying at because they are being discriminated against (for) their faith. We are here to help them whether they choose to remain in Mexico or seek asylum in America.”

"It's extremely important that we assist the transformative work that the Latina Muslim Foundation is doing." - Sheikh Suhaib Webb
About our Founder
Sister Sonia was born in the city and was raised as a Catholic before converting to Islam. She envisioned hosting workshops teaching young deported people from the U.S. how to better their Spanish. She intended to hold classes for migrants and deportees to learn trades like hairdressing and tailoring. For migrants seeking refuge, Sister Sonia prayed they could stay at the shelter and volunteer to cook and clean, as well as enroll in workshops. Now her dreams are becoming a reality.
For migrants and asylum-seekers, she wanted to help them find work while they waited in Mexico and decide their next steps. “It’s good to help and give to people, but it’s better to prepare people to have some kind of future. There are Muslims who do not feel safe in the shelters they are staying at because they are being discriminated against (for) their faith. We are here to help them whether they choose to remain in Mexico or seek asylum in America.”

Please help in this opportunity to not only help our Muslim brothers and sisters that are suffering oppression and are seeking help but to raise awareness about Islam in a community seeking guidance and where the presence of Islam is virtually absent. Help give a new life to Muslim refugees.

This project is a Sadaqa Jariya and 100% of your donations will go towards the overhead expenses of the center. Allah (swt) says that ”For those who give in Charity men and women and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan it shall be increased manifold (to their credit) and they shall have (besides) a liberal reward.” – Quran (57:18).
